Well...it's been a long couple of days (mostly for mom & dad) for us three Blanco's. We spent the last 48 hours in the hospital being treated for Jaundice. The Jaundice was only slight when we left the hospital after birth and the doctor thought it should clear itself out. Despite good eats, pees and poos.........Vanessa's coloring wasn't clearing as quickly as it should and at our doctor check-up on Wednesday we were told to go to the hospital for blood work. The bilirubin level was much higher than it should be (22.48) so we were told to "walk over to admission, we're admitting your little girl". Mommy teared up at those words! Of course nothing to really be upset over since Jaundice is a fairly common condition and the treatment required was nothing more than laying on a bed under special lights -- sitting in Tahiti as the nurses called it. The only thing that "hurt" little Vanessa was an occasional prick for some blood to keep a check on her levels. Turns out mommy's breastmilk was interfering with the absorption of the bilirubin so we had to switch to formula for 48 hours. We're home now and her levels are down to 10 which is great. We're back to breastmilk and our coloring has improved dramatically! We're hoping to save any more trips to "Tahiti" until we're graduated from college (notice the "graduated" part since mom & dad don't want to even thing about the words Spring Break).
